Golden Age Animator (BSA 106)
GOLDEN AGE Animator
In the Golden Age era, animation characters such as Mickey Mouse and Tom and Jerry were very popular, even until now. Today, I'm going to discuss about the animators who created Tom and Jerry cartoon.
1. Who are they?
William Hanna and Joseph Barbera were the one who invented Tom and Jerry in the late 1930s. At first, the title for the the cartoon was Puss Gets The Boot, and later on changed to Tom and Jerry. For couple of years, I'm sure all of us has realised that Tom character has changed a little bit, while Jerry is still the same as ever.
2. What studios they work for?
They worked for MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer)
3. What changes have been made to the characters?
For around 75 years Tom and Jerry has dominates the cartoon series in our television, with different people and animators who have developed the cartoon become more and more interesting. One of it is by changing the characters, especially Tom.
A. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera (1940-1958)
We can see that the first Tom character is quite rough and looked not too friendly.
B. Gene Deitch (1961-1962)
Tom character has changed, both in the body posture as well as its skin colour. That goes the same for Jerry.
C. Chuck Jones (1963-1967)
Both of the characters have more "angry type kind of looks" with thick eyebrows.
D. Hanna and Barbera's Tom and Jerry Show (1975-1977)
I think this is the final development of Tom and Jerry.
